Our Designated Officer for Child Protection is: Mr C Lancaster (Headteacher).
Our Deputy Designated Officers are: Mrs R Clift (Deputy Head Teacher) and Mrs T Chapman (CAFCo). The Governors with responsibility for Child Protection and Safeguarding are Mrs M Hogden and Mrs J McCabe.
All three officers have had rigorous training in the correct procedures to follow. Other staff members have training on a regular basis. All matters of Child Protection are kept strictly confidential within school and information is only shared within the strict guidelines of confidentiality on a ‘need to know basis’ – usually only the minimum of information to the child’s class teacher to ensure that they are monitored and any concerns are raised (for example poor attendance).
Our school is part of the Operation Encompass Scheme run by Devon & Cornwall Police, which means that any incidents of Domestic Abuse or Violence, which necessitates the police attending the house when children are at home is reported to Mr Lancaster, Mrs Chapman or Mrs Clift by telephone the next morning. This information is also kept confidential and is only shared on a need to know basis with the child’s class teacher. In this way we can ensure that children who may be upset, can be supported through the next few days or weeks.
All adults who work in school on a regular basis are DBS checked (including any parent helpers). All visitors to school are checked as carefully as possible and are accompanied by another adult at all times, unless we are certain of their suitability to work with children. Mrs Hogden and Mrs McCabe, our Governors responsible for safeguarding, conduct an audit of practice, at least annually, to ensure that all safeguarding policies are adhered to.
