Welcome to Ravens!
My name is Miss Law and I am the class teacher of the Ravens. Our teaching assistant is Miss Valentine. On a Friday afternoon, the class will be taught P.E and R.E. by different teachers.
Homework will be set on Friday and we expect it to be handed in on Wednesday, which gives the children plenty of time to complete it. Children will be completing SATs style questions for maths homework. This will help to improve their stamina and exam technique. At the bottom of the class page, you can find online copies of the maths homework each week as well as YouTube tutorial links for the pupils if they are unsure. We will go through the questions together in class during our following Thursday Number Masters session. The pupils will also have a spelling / grammar task to complete. It would be brilliant if you could hear your children read regularly and complete their reading diaries. Reading with your child is important (and great for our word count) so we need to encourage the children to read as much as possible.
Outdoor P.E. will be on a Monday afternoon with Miss Law and indoor P.E. will be with the Go Active team on a Friday afternoon - please ensure children have their P.E. kits (including their Knowle Primary house t-shirt) in school.
Our topic this term is Eden Adventure. The pupils will be learning about different biomes and environments all over the world and making comparisons between them. We have already been using atlases and globes to find out more about continents and countries and we have discussed longitude and latitude as well as time zones around the world. We will be looking more closely at rainforests in South America and using this knowledge in English to write a non-chronological report about a rainforest animal. It is wonderful to see the pupils being so enthusiastic about this topic and I have already had children carrying out further research at home that they then want to share with the class.
Ravens had a super Autumn term. The pupils are focused and strive to do their best at all times. Here's to a great Spring term!
If you have any questions please come and see me before or after school and I will be more than happy to help!
Ravens are currently leading the word count across the whole school, with over 3,500,000 words read! We are also very proud of Grace Blewett, who has now surpassed one million words since she started Year 6. This is an incredible achievement and we hope that Grace and all of Raven class continue to enjoy their reading and pass their quizzes!
On Friday 13th October, Year 6 were evacuated on the steam train to Buckfastleigh. The pupils had to write a postcard home to their loved ones and sing wartime songs to keep up their morale! Once we arrived in Buckfastleigh, the pupils had the chance to learn about the Dig for Victory campaign, try on World War Two helmets, pack into an Anderson shelter and listen to the incredible evacuation story of a WW2 survivor.
We had a fantastic time on our trip. The pupils went to great efforts to dress up and look authentic, so thank you to all of those at home who helped them!
