Welcome to 6R Class!
Your teacher is called Mrs Rust and your teaching assistants are Miss Holt and Mrs Corey. You will also be taught by Ms Edwards every other Monday.
P.E. sessions are currently on Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning where the children need to ensure they have a P.E kit available to participate. The children are being taught volleyball and dance.
HOME / SCHOOL DIARIES
Purple home/school diaries are collected in every Thursday. We will update your child's diary with comments regarding their week at school and will hand out diaries the following day. To encourage children to take responsibility for deadlines, diaries handed in late will not be updated with comments till the following week.
On a Monday, maths homework will be issued and will be need to be handed in on the Wednesday of the same week.
On a Wednesday, English homework will be issued and will be need to be handed in on the Friday of the same week.
On a Friday, Topic/Comprehension homework will be issued and will be need to be handed in the following Monday.
Failure to submit homework on time, without a valid reason, will result in the child being given the homework to complete during their breaktime/lunchtime or golden time.
Please also remember that your child can develop their skills by accessing Mathletics, Reading Eggs and Spellodrome on the internet and also children need to be practicing their spellings, times tables and reading daily. We have found that the sites are fun and an excellent vehicle for learning!
In addition to the pieces of written homework we ask that all children read regularly. We suggest a minimum of 10 minutes per night. Reading and discussing books each night will help your children to develop the higher order reading skills of comprehension and will help to move their reading forward. You can find guidance for 'book talk' in the form of reading question stems here on the website.
In May 2017 Year 6 children will sit their SATs tests. A Year 6 child is expected to be 'secondary ready' and working within 'Age Related Expectations'. Parents are asked to support their children as much as possible to enable them to achieve the best results possible. If you need advice as to the best way to do this please speak to your child's class teacher who will be able to offer advice.
Make sure you are learning your spellings, as we have a test on a Friday morning.
