Don’t forget our writing steps to success;

Phonics:

Read Write Inc. Phonics lessons are on Facebook and YouTube for children to watch at home.

From Monday 20th April, new films will be released at the times shown below from Monday to Friday. The new Speed Sounds lessons YouTube schedule is now available on their website

Each film is around ten to fifteen minutes long and will be available for 24 hours.

I would suggest that you follow this link to review set 1 sound as your child will know these really well now; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCBzNnSSxds (turn off the sound so your child can say what they see).   Then, watch the set 2 sound lessons at 10am and 10:15.

Note; If you ask your child to read the set 2 sounds in your home learning pack and they know the set 2 sounds really well, move onto watching set 3.

Ask your child to read the words below using Fred-talk before blending the words;

'ow' blow the snow

know

blow

snow

glow

slow

Now ask them to try spelling the words; Say the word slowly and allow them to decode the word independently to spell it. Keep a record of their score to share with us.

Maths:

Today we are going to be looking at weight. Who is heavier in your house? How do you know? Play the game with Dennis the camel. Which bowls are heavier and how do you know? What happens when the bowls are balanced? What does this mean?

https://pbskids.org/peg/games/happy-camel

Make two signs. One showing ‘heavy’ and one showing ‘light’. Now find objects around the house and compare the weight of different objects. Putting each object on the signs to show whether it is heavy or light.

Challenge and play idea: Make a cake or something sweet with your adults at home. You can use the scales to help weigh the different ingredients. I have attached some photos to give you some ideas of what you could make (don't worry if you can't make it today, prepare it for another day).

Topic: Pick a challenge from the home learning grid.

Reading:  Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record. New books can be accessed online through this link. You will need to register but it is completely free. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/.
