Phonics:

Read Write Inc. Phonics lessons are on Facebook and YouTube for children to watch at home.

From Monday 20th April, new films will be released at the times shown below from Monday to Friday. The new Speed Sounds lessons YouTube schedule is now available on their website

Each film is around ten to fifteen minutes long and will be available for 24 hours.

I would suggest that you follow this link to review set 1 sound as your child will know these really well now; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCBzNnSSxds (turn off the sound so your child can say what they see).   Then, watch the set 2 sound lessons at 10am and 10:15.

Note; If you ask your child to read the set 2 sounds in your home learning pack and they know the set 2 sounds really well, move onto watching set 3.

Ask your child to read the words below using Fred-talk before blending the words; ‘oo’ poo at the zoo

zoo

spoon

pool

moon

stool

Now ask them to try spelling the words; Say the word slowly and allow them to decode the word independently to spell it. Keep a record of their score to share with us.

English:

Today, we are going to practise finding words that rhyme. To warm up your brain for today’s task, play this rhyming game;

http://www.literactive.com/Download/live.asp?swf=story_files/washing_line_rhyme_US.swf

Today, you will find the missing rhyming words in a poem about Diplodocus Dan below;

Maths:

Play this game to review yesterdays learning;

http://www.lcfclubs.com/lcf-maths/flash04/z04-games/z04-heavier-and-lighter.asp

Open and play the ‘Heavier or Lighter’ PowerPoint for todays lesson.

Remember to use our sentence stems to answer the questions;

The _____________ is lighter than the __________.

The _____________ is heavier than the __________.

If you can’t access this, you can play at home using household objects. Which is heavier and which is lighter? Encourage your child to use the language associated with weight so that they become more familiar with this.

Challenge and play idea: Make a cake or something sweet with your adults at home.

Topic: Pick a challenge from the home learning grid.

Reading:  Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record. New books can be accessed online through this link. You will need to register but it is completely free. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/.

Todays challenges; 'air' that's not fair.

Now, write a sentence using one of the words you have found. Remember to include the trigraph 'air'.

English:

Watch this dinosaur adventure story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtP9Ja9xMgQ

Now create a story map for your own dinosaur adventure. Add some interesting adjectives (describing words) to your story map as this will help you to write your story tomorrow.

TIP; Follow the same story that you have watched, and change the characters and settings.

Maths:

Practise counting in 5s. Use this chart to help you;

Mild

Practical - Using any resources at home make groups of 5. You could use pasta shapes, cereal, toys – anything you can find!

For example, for 2 x 5 = you would make 2 groups of 5 like the picture below:

I have 10 altogether.

Activity: Using resources can you have a go at making groups of 5 and then counting to see how many you have altogether?

1 x 5 =

4 x 5 =

Spicy

To represent a multiplication sum we can use an array.

Activity: Can you solve these multiplication sums and draw an array to represent each one?

2 x 5 =

3 x 5 =

Hot

Solve these multiplication sums by counting in 5s.

5 x 5 =

7 x 5 =

Remember you can also use your propeller maths board.
