I would suggest that you follow this link to review set 1 sound as your child will know these really

well now; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCBzNnSSxds (turn off the sound so your child can say what they see).   Then, watch the set 2 sound lessons at 10am and 10:15.

Note; If you ask your child to read the set 2 sounds in your home learning pack and they know the set 2 sounds really well, move onto watching set 3.

Ask your child to read the words below using Fred-talk before blending the words.

'ar' start the car

park

star

smart

sharp

start

Now ask them to try spelling the words; Say the word slowly and allow them to decode the word independently to spell it. Keep a record of their score to share with us.

English:

Read the story Percy the Park Keeper – After the Storm

Please note; If you are unable to open the power point, you may choose to watch the televised version of the story on  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dyCkleWRzo

Create a story map to help you retell the story. Keep it simple, only drawing key parts.

Maths:

Today we are looking at capacity. Help the wizard sort out his potions. Can you answer his questions on how full each of his containers are?

Volcano making: This week’s theme is ‘Extreme Earth’. If you have the ingredients, then you can make a volcano at home. Make sure you take a video of your eruption and read the ingredients carefully with your adults to make sure you get the recipe correct.

Topic: Pick a challenge from the home learning grid.

Reading: Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record. New books can be accessed online through this link. You will need to register but it is completely free. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/.

Phonics Challenge;

English: To begin our extreme Earth week, we are going to have a look at volcanoes. Watch this video clip.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAmqsMQG3RM

Listen carefully when Dr. Binocs tells you how a volcano erupts.  Then, I would like you to write an information text today, telling me how a volcano erupts. Draw a picture first and then use these words to start your sentences;

First .........

Next .........

Then ........

Finally ......

Maths;

This week we are looking at place value and numbers up to 100!   Today we are going to be representing numbers up to 100 in 10s and 1s.

Starter activity: You do not need to draw the number square. In your maths books write a list of the missing numbers.

In a 2-digit number the first number holds the tens place. The second number holds the ones place.

In your maths book you are going to be drawing a place value grid and representing numbers in 10s and 1s. You can draw a straight line to represent a ten and dots to represent ones. Like below:

Today's activity:

Topic: Science

We are going to look at what happens when glaciers melt. Find out all about glaciers from these YouTube clips.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbYXiJsF5mw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RL3EjH9-WSs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjbQtunsB-U

Now it is your turn to conduct an experiment. Watch this next video that will explain how to do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDZWWcAfn-c Did anything unexpected happen? Maybe you can do the experiment again, but this time put your two pots in the sunshine. If you don’t have any modelling clay at home you could use playdough or create the land from Lego, it just needs to be above the water.

Reading: Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record. New books can be accessed online through this link. You will need to register but it is completely free. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

Spelling: Keep practising the year 1 Common Exception words. You have these in your packs
