Phonics:

Read Write Inc. Phonics lessons are on Facebook and YouTube for children to watch at home.

From Monday 20th April, new films will be released at the times shown below from Monday to Friday. The new Speed Sounds lessons YouTube schedule is now available on their website

Each film is around ten to fifteen minutes long and will be available for 24 hours.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ

I would suggest that you follow this link to review set 1 sound as your child will know these really well now; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCBzNnSSxds (turn off the sound so your child can say what they see).   Then, watch the set 2 sound lessons at 10am and 10:15.

Note; If you ask your child to read the set 2 sounds in your home learning pack and they know the set 2 sounds really well, move onto watching set 3.

Ask your child to read the words below using Fred-talk before blending the words.

dirt

girl

twirl

third

bird

Now ask them to try spelling the words; Say the word slowly and allow them to decode the word independently to spell it. Keep a record of their score to share with us.

English:

Draw and label a picture of a new house for the animals.

Try to write some simple sentences. For example;

The fox lives in the ______.

The squirrel lives in the ______.

Maths;

Today we are going to focus on making patterns with shapes.

http://resources.hwb.wales.gov.uk/VTC/simple_patterns/eng/Introduction/MainSession.htm

If possible, print off these patterns at home and get your child to continue them using the colours you have. If you don’t have access to a printer, you could draw a few for your child to continue. If you don’t have the option to do either of these, go on a shape hunt around your house and see how many different shapes you can spot.

Here is another fabulous game that the children are familiar with playing in school;

Topic: Pick a challenge from the home learning grid.

Today's challenge;

English:

Today we are going to look at tornados. Here are some videos for you to watch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMWoYPaQx0Q

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aacHWoB7cmY

Imagine that you have been taken up into a tornado and landed in a magical land. Can you write a description of this new land? Think about what kind of land it is, could everything be growing upside down or could everything be the wrong colour?

Maths;

Count in tens

Ask the children to recall number bonds to 10. Write a list of the ones that they know.

0+10=

1+9=

2+8=                       and so on

Here is a song about number bonds to 10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD_RUVLPvTY

Once the children have been able to recall their number bonds to 10, they can start to think about number bonds to 100.

If 1 + 9 = 10 then 10 + 90 = 100

    2 + 8 = 10 then 20 + 80 = 100

    3 + 7 = 10 then 30 + 70 = 100

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Y5nUOo_9Dc This video explains the link between number bonds to 10 and number bonds to 100.

It may be useful to have some practical resources to support counting, if you can. Here are some suggestions;

Bundles of 10 straws/spaghetti sticks banded together to represent 10. Eg - 3 bundles of straws represents 30.

Pots with ten pieces of pasta inside.

ten 1p coins in groups of 10.

Activity: Can you record the number bonds to 100? I will start you off.

 0 + 100 = 100

10 + 90  = 100            and so on

Topic: DT

Watch this video about floods in Devon (2012) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXO4TF6z4O0

Your challenge is to design a flood resistant house that would be perfect if we were to have these floods again. Think about the materials you would use. Draw the design of your new house and label it to explain how you are making it flood resistant. Below are some pictures of flood resistant houses around the world:
