Attendance of all children is a priority at Knowle. The more children attend school, the more that they learn and thrive. We understand that children experience illnesses and that from time to time, may miss occasional days of school. Where possible, we will always provide support to families to ensure that absence processes are followed, ensuring the safeguarding of all children alongside their health and wellbeing.
Important timings of the school day impacting attendance
Our school day begins at 8:30am when children can enter classrooms for their Super Start!
Attendance registers open at 8:45am and close at 9am.
Arriving between 9am and 9:15am will result in an L (late) mark.
Arriving after 9:15am results in a U mark - this means that your child has an unauthorised late mark.
What do I do if my child is ill?
Always report an illness to the school office as soon as possible on the day of the absence. This can be a telephone call on 01752 365364 or by email at admin@knowle-plymouth.co.uk. We will always call home if we have not heard from you and your child is absent from school.
What happens when an illness is not reported?
Parents and carers have a responsibility to report all illnesses that result in an absence. If an illness is not reported and we are unable to speak with a parent or carer, your child's absence is recorded as an unauthorised absence.
What happens if my child accumulates a number of absences?
We monitor the attendance of all children very closely each week so that we can support families. There are a number of different outcomes to regular absence listed below.
Regular absence through illness will result in the school requesting medical evidence when your child is absent. When medical evidence is not provided, your child's absence will be unauthorised.
Here is our flow chart that illustrates our processes when unauthorised absences accumulate:
