WALT write a diary extract from the point of view of a character.

Example:

Dear Diary,

Well that day didn't go to plan! We were supposed to continue building our road today but it went very wrong!

The day started normally. I woke up and woke up the other soldiers. We had our breakfast of porridge oats and goats milk before I called the men to work.

We had to make sure our battering ram was fixed after what happened to it yesterday. I tied some twine around the end where we had split it and it was good to go. We have had to knock down some old buildings with it.

However, today when we came to an old building, something was different. We saw that there were a lot of sheep and chickens around the outside of it. Also, there was a fire smouldering. It was like somebody was still living there. But that couldn't be possible could it? We had orders and that was that. I got Julius to check the plumb lines with the goma and he said that the road was definitely going straight through the barn. The barn needed to be knocked down. Shame really because it was a cosy little building.

I nearly jumped out of my skin when we heard a boy screaming. That's right! A boy was INSIDE THE BARN!

Today's task:

In the zoom we have written an example of a diary entry together, we discussed the four main parts of the story so far and how Brit would have been feeling. Today you will be writing a diary entry about the day that Brit has gone through and how he is feeling.

Step 1: Write Dear Diary,

Step 2: Write an opening paragraph that explains what kind of day it has been.

Step 3: Write a paragraph for each event that happens (in time order) and discuss how you feel.

Don't forget to use emotive language.
