Friday 17.04.20

Friday 17th April

English:

Morning everyone! Today is Friday and we are nearing the end of our Pobble adventures. Please, please send us some of your creations as we'd love to have a read of your stories. Thanks to those of you who have been forwarding your work, it has been great to see what ideas you have come up with.

Today's Pobble picture is a mysterious one; it made me think of Jack and the Beanstalk, but I'm sure you will have different ideas. The image is called 'The Sky Path'.

Story starter!

She had been walking all day. Her feet hurt and her bones ached, but it would all be worth it: she was almost there.

The path rose up in front of her, twisting through the mist like a snake squeezing its prey. Were the stories all true? Did the path truly lead where she had been told? If it did, this was only just the beginning of her journey…

Sentence challenge!

Insert the punctuation into the sentence below.

Please let this be it she muttered under her breath let the stories be true.

Can you use speech in your writing today? Remember to use inverted commas.

Sick sentences!

These sentences are ‘sick’ and need help to get better. Can you help?

The lady went along the path. In front of her a ladder went up.

Question time!

What do you think is at the top of the ladder?

If you didn’t know what was at the top, would you climb the ladder?

Do you think the lady in the picture has a story to tell? What kind of person do you think she is?

Why do you think she is climbing the ladder? Is she looking for something/someone?

Science:

Today you should continue the work set yesterday (see yesterday's tab). Aim to have your factsheet completed today. Remember that it needs to be created with a Year 4 child in mind. Think carefully about what they would be interested in and build your ideas upon that:

Should it be all text or could you include drawings and diagrams?

Should you do it in black and white or does it need colour?

Do you need headings and subheadings?

Could you add in additional boxes containing some fun facts?

I'd love to see some of your factsheets so don't forget to take some photos of what you have created and send them to me via email.

Reading:

Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading diary.

Maths:

Today's maths takes a slightly different twist... It's Times table trek day!

Task 1 is to spend 10 minutes practising the times table, division facts or other trek related tasks that you will find on your times table sheets (you should find these in your packs). For example, if you are in Devon, practise a Devon sheet without timing yourself.

Task 2 is to complete the sheet below as quickly as possible. Please time yourself and record the time as you will need if for the next task.

Task 3 is to complete the following sheet. You should be able to answer these almost as quickly as the ones in Task 2! Please time yourself and compare your two times... How did you do?

You should know these by now but a refresher will ensure that you remain fluent!

Task 4 Now give yourself no more than 3 minutes to do your times table travel sheet. No sneaking a few extra seconds either wink. Calm yourself before you start and make sure you are focused! Let me know who flies!
