Good morning everybody. We hope you have enjoyed this week’s topic 😊 Look out for a new topic next week!
Don't forget when you have completed any of your work, please email it to your teacher.
Read Write Inc. Phonics lessons are on YouTube for children to watch at home from 9:30am and will be available for 24 hours. All films will be in separate categories on the YouTube channel; https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ
I would suggest that you follow this link to review set 1 sound as your child will know these really well now; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCBzNnSSxds (turn off the sound so your child can say what they see).
Note; Keep asking your child to tell you the set 2 and 3 sounds in their home learning packs so that you know which sounds to practise.
You can also play some fun phonics games here;https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/
The Aliens have been caught and they are very sorry. They have written a letter to Mr Lancaster to say sorry for taking his underpants. They have told me that they would like to come to Knowle Primary School. Write about what it might be like to have an alien come to school for the day.
Remember to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in your writing. Try and include some expanded noun phrases and adverbs to improve your writing.
Warm up - count in steps of 2, 3, and 5 from 0, and in tens from any number, forward and backward. You need to know these times tables by the end of the year.
Today we are going to be looking at solving a missing number addition calculation using subtraction.
Choose from a problem solving challenge below;
In the top corner of your rapid recall whiteboard, you will have a space to write your number.
Year 2 (20-50) - Today's number is 31

Today you are going to create your own alien, then design and make a spaceship for it. You can use Lego (or any other construction you have at home) OR you might find some junk in your recycling bin.
What is a Spaceship? A spaceship is a vehicle designed to travel to and orbit in space. The payload, or what is carried into space – a telescope, sensor device, or people – is contained within the launch vehicle which lifts the payload into space.
To create your own spaceship, follow these 5 steps to BLAST OFF!!!!
STEP ONE: Mission Purpose
What is the purpose of the mission? What does the alien need to take? How big is the payload and how much support does it need? These have to be determined before anything else. Then engineers can decide if the mission is possible.
STEP TWO: Design
What shape and size does your spaceship need to be? Does your alien have any special requirements? The spaceship must be designed to include all of the support systems for the mission, such as power, oxygen, propellants.
STEP THREE: Analyses
NASA Langley engineers look very closely at the structure of a launch vehicle. The Engineers analyze flight performance. They also check if they have chosen the right materials for the job and change them if it does not work.
STEP FOUR: Testing
Once the launch vehicle has been designed by computer, it must be tested. It is time to build actual parts of the vehicle and test them for performance. Some tests are done in a wind tunnel where air is blown across a part at high speeds. Ask an adult if they can help you use a fan or hairdryer to create wind. Components which do not meet performance requirements are then redesigned and retested.
STEP FIVE: Fabrication
Once a final design passes all tests, a full-scale model or mock-up is fabricated. From there a prototype, or flight vehicle, may be built, then tested in flight for many hours to assure the quality of design. If it passes all the test flights, it is ready to be manufactured and assembled for operational use. Are you ready for your mission? Do you think your spaceship would pass the tests? Go for it.
Below is a guide to making a paper plate spaceship if you would like to use it.
We want you to practise your weekly spellings in our fancy handwriting style. Please have a look at the document attached at the bottom to show you the joins.
Log in to your myON account here; https://www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html
You can choose from a variety of texts and most will have a quiz to go with them. We can log in and see how you are getting on so I would love to see your quiz scores, 100% of course.
Please practise your spellings daily. This week’s spellings are below. You will need to see which ones you want to work on. If you can already spell all of the Year 1 & 2 spellings, then have a go at the Year 3/4. We will be focusing on 10 spellings every week. On Friday, get someone at home to do your spelling test with you!
