Today is the last day of our artist unit, and we thought we’d give you something informative but also creative. To develop your knowledge of painters, we would like you to start your task by reading about a Spanish artist called Joan Miro. The short biography that we have attached below is information all about the artist and his life.
We have also attached a word document containing information about him that will be used in your work today so if you are able to print it off then that would be great! If you don’t have access to a printer, then you still need to read the biography, but you can use a different sheet of text for your work.
What are we doing? Well today we would like you to come up with a blackout poem about Miro (we have done this before so we are hoping you will already have a good idea what a blackout poem is), but for those of you who have forgotten, please take a look at the link below:
Your task is to use the word document of Miro (if you can) to select words to create a poem about him…select any number of words and conceal the rest… Enjoy!

If you are unable to print the Miro word document off, then please feel free to create a blackout poem using a different piece of text (i.e. a page from a newspaper, magazine or old book). Can you find words which follow our arty theme?

In keeping with Miro’s theme, today’s topic task is to design and make a small boxed Miro jigsaw puzzle. The puzzle picture will be based on a picture by Miro and should be made to fit in a cube (see net provided).
To start your task, you will need to watch the following you tube clip on how to paint like Miro.
When you have watched the video clip, draw, colour or paint your picture on a piece of A4 paper or card. You can use your own ideas, but we’d like you to draw in the style of Miro. When it is finished, paint another similar picture onto the net of your cube (try to make it as similar as possible to your jigsaw picture). When you have painted your cube net, cut it out to make your box (you could add a title or text to the box if you wish).
Now that you have your box, you need to cut up your Miro picture to make your jigsaw. You need to think carefully about how you will do this as the pieces will need to fit inside without being bent or folded. If you cut the pieces too small, the jigsaw will be too difficult but if you do them too big, they won’t fit. Cutting jigsaw shapes is tricky so we would advise you just use wobbly lines; whatever you decide, take care and think the task through carefully.
When your jigsaw is complete, give it to a family member to see if they can do it! Have fun!
