This weeks's learning is again based around Number Bonds to 10. Having a good knowledge of number bonds to 10 will give the children a great foundation for when they move up to Year 1. Now that the children are becoming to recognise that two amounts can make up to 10 using resources, we will build on this and build up their fluency with this skill.
This unit explores the vital building block for understanding number, the bonds to 10. These are represented in a ten frame and in part-whole models and using counters. The learning in this unit forms the basis for understanding addition (including the commutative law), which can then
be applied to larger numbers. Key language related to both addition and subtraction is used throughout.
In this unit, children continue exploring addition, now looking specifically at the number bonds to 10. These are shown in a ten frame and using the whole-part model, which have both been used before. Children begin to explore the bonds in a more systematic way and recognise the commutative law of addition. Children are introduced to missing parts as a precursor to subtraction by counting on or back.
