Monday 11th May

Hello everyone! Hope you have all had a lovely bank holiday weekend! Our theme for this week is BRITAIN IS GREAT! Today you will be learning about famous people and their inventions that made this country great. Remember to send examples of your work into our class email.

foxes@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

So here is your home learning for today.

English:

Isambard-Kingdom Brunel famously designed the Great Western Railway from London to the South West that includes the Railway bridge that goes over the River Tamar. You will have travelled across his bridge if you were on a train heading for Cornwall! You get a great view of his railway bridge when you travel to Cornwall by car. Carefully watch this Dick and Dom YouTube clip and record facts about the great man.

Some interesting facts to find out would include…

  • When was Brunel born?
  • What did Brunel do?
  • What was Brunel remembered for?
  • How did Brunel learn his skills?
  • What were Brunel’s top 5 engineering feats?

It may be helpful to watch and pause it when you find out another interesting fact. Record your facts into your book.

Use google and these websites to find further facts about Brunel:

Make sure you send your work in to our class email.

Maths:

Today we are going to use the bite size daily for out maths work. Today’s lesson is all about subtracting money. You could record workings in your books.

Please continue to use TTRS to practice your times tables.

Here is an extra game for you to try. Create a bridge to get a train across the ravine safely.

Topic:

Brunel was famous for his bridges amongst other things.  Make your own bridge that would take the weight of a small toy train or toy car. You can use anything to build your bridge. You could raid your recycling boxes, build from lego or use sticks outdoors. Remember to take a photo before you test your bridges! Please send any creations to the class email.

Please make sure you are staying active, doing some exercise throughout the day. You can use the Joe Wicks sessions or just enjoy a nice walk with your family.

Don’t forget to do plenty of reading at home. New books can be accessed online through this link. You will need to register but it's completely free.
