Britain is great but do you really know much about it?
This week you will be spending some time looking at human and physical features of the UK as well as taking a closer look at the British monarchy. After much deliberation, and having had a number of conversations with children, it seems that the Tudor period is of considerable interest... so, get your researching hats on and get ready to write.
English & History
This week you are going to write a non-chronological report which will cover some aspects of the British monarchy. Today I would like you to spend some time finding out about the different Kings and Queens who have been in power. There have been 61 monarchs spread over a period of approximately 1200 years. The first recorded King was a Saxon King called Egbert who reigned from 827 – 839.
However, today I want you to focus on the Kings or Queens who have reigned since 1485; starting with Henry VII (1485 - 1509) right through to present day. For your History lesson, I would like you to create a timeline showing the chronology of the monarchs. You can include any information you want on your timeline but be sure to record their full names and the dates of their reign.
When you have finished, I would like you to do a bit of general research into the Tudor dynasty because your non-chronological report will be about the Tudors; Henry VII, Henry VIII, Edward VI, Jane Grey, Queen Mary I (Bloody Mary) and Queen Elizabeth I. They are a colourful bunch so make sure you find out all of the interesting bits! Today I would like you to write an introduction. You can type it or write it, whatever you prefer… but make sure it’s interesting! I suggest you write no more than 300 words but take care to use your words carefully as you’ll need to hook in your reader. When you have finished it, I’d love to see it, so why not send it to me in an email!

Reading
If you have one left, please complete a reading paper from one of the SATs packs. Work for the time specified on the paper and try to focus so you complete it all in the time available. If you have already completed all of the papers, then please complete your daily reading. A book review would be great to read if you’re ready to do one! Don’t forget to send it – I’ll pop it on the internet for your friends to read.
