Monday 13th July

Welcome to your final week in Year 6!

We hope you had a great weekend and enjoyed the topic on Food last week. Hopefully you will also enjoy learning about Health and Exercise this week.

When you have completed any of your work, please email it to us. Email it to your class teacher still. Here are our email addresses below:

Enjoy!

From Miss Harcourt and Mrs Walters 😊

English:

In English, we are going to begin the week by learning about inspirational sporting heroes. These are people who play sport at the highest, elite level because of their strong understanding of how to eat healthily, stay healthy and exercise correctly.

Firstly, can you make a list of sporting heroes that you know of?

After, write down what links they have/what they have in common. You should be able to think of at least three things.

Have a look at the document attached.

This will give you some information about British sporting heroes. Again, think about and identify what these people have in common. Why do you think they are playing their sport at the highest, elite level? What personality traits do they have?

This video is a short clip showing Cristiano Ronaldo’s training routine. Pay attention to what he says and the various exercises he does. You will notice he works on all areas of his body as well as his stamina and endurance.

Your activity is to produce a fact file about a famous sporting hero of your choice. You need to focus on information relating to their exercise, health and diet. Use the internet as your primary source of information. I would like it if you had a drawing of your sporting hero in the middle of your fact file with facts around the outside. I have attached an example below for you to refer to.

Maths

This week you are going to extend your understanding of fractions and mixed numbers by adding and subtracting fractions.

Today you are going to apply your knowledge of factors to simplify mixed numbers and improper fractions.

Now have a look at the main maths task below:

If you need another reminder of simplifying fractions look at the shared example below:

Now choose from the mild, spicy or hot challenges. (If you feel confident try more than one!)

If you are feeling really confident with simplifying mixed numbers and improper fractions, challenge yourself with these extra mastery challenges:

Now complete your propeller board using the numbers Side A 30-90 : 75

                                                                                  Side B 10-90 : 75

Also remember to keep practising your times tables on TTRS.

Topic:

This morning you learnt about the exercise routines of sporting heroes. These routines are clearly beneficial but this afternoon you are going to ask the question 'why'?

Firstly, answer these questions in your book using just your ideas and your own opinions.

Why do you think exercise is so important?

What benefits does it have?

The three videos below will tell you more and they explore the science behind the health benefits of exercising.

Once you have watched the videos, please look at the document attached below. Joe Wicks will tell you even more about the health benefits of exercising!

Your task is to produce a poster with facts, information and pictures about why it is important to

exercise regularly.

Use what you have learnt in this lesson so far and your own research. You should mention at least 7 benefits in your poster.

Reading: Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record.  You can now also go on: https://www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html to do your online reading and quizzes too! We can see how many books you have read and how you are doing on your quizzes. So go on, let’s get reading!

Spellings:

Please practise your spellings daily. This week’s spellings are below. You will need to see which ones you want to work on. If you can spell all of the Year 3/4 words, then do the Year 5/6. We will be focusing on 10 spellings every week. On Friday, get someone at home to do your spelling test with you!
