Monday 18th May

Good morning everybody! This week is ‘WILD WEEK!’ It is all about nature, animals, wildlife and the wild world.

The reason this is our theme this week, is because Friday 22nd May is International Day for Biological Diversity.

Watch this video to find out what that means…

Have a great week!

Mr B 😊

English:

Extinct animals:

At the bottom of the page there are two PDF files which tell you about 8 extinct animals. That means their species has died out!

  1. Write a list, in chronological order (date order) of the species and what date they went extinct.
  2. Choose one of these extinct animals to write about, use the facts and write the information in your book. You can do your own research to find out more!

CHALLENGE: Can you explain what the IUCN ‘red list’ is? And what does IUCN stand for?

Maths:

In maths this week, you will be consolidating your understanding of number in various ways with a link to multiplication and division. You will be looking at factors, multiples, prime numbers, composite numbers, square numbers and cube numbers. Today you will be recapping factors. Watch the videos below and then have a go at the activities in your book.

Now write down all the factors for the numbers below:

Mild: 16, 20 and 24.

Spicy: 28, 36 and 42

Hot: 48, 72 and 96

There are three extension challenges to try today at the bottom of the page. Try and have a go at all three! Make sure you use examples as evidence and explain yourself in as much detail as possible.

In the top corner of your rapid recall whiteboard, you will have a space to write your number.

Range 10-20: 10

Range 30-60: 30

Range 350-450: 390

Range 30-99: 30

Use the information from this video and research of your own to produce a fact file about Charles Darwin and his work on evolution.

Reading: Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record.

Spellings:

Please practise your spellings daily. These lists are on our class page. You can practise the Year 1/2, Year 3/4 and the Year 5/6 spelling lists. You all know which spellings you should be practising anyway.
