Monday 22nd June

Good morning everybody!   This week you are going to learn all about famous Artists.   You are going to learn about the lives of famous artists and use their paintings as inspiration to write stories and poems.  Unleash your creativity!

Remember to send your work to your class email addresses:

Mr Bemister: otters@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

Ms Edwards: foxes@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

Miss Hancock: badgers@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

English:

Today you are going to learn all about the famous artist Vincent van Gogh.  Watch this clip, telling the story of Camille and the Sunflowers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqK6Iwwg96U

Now read the text about van Gogh (at the end of this page) and answer these questions in your book:

  1. When was Vincent van Gogh born?
  2. What 3 types of paintings did he paint?
  3. What was he like as a child?
  4. What job did he do in England?
  5. Where was he when he started to sketch people?
  6. Where did he go to art school?
  7. What was his first major work called?
  8. Where did van Gogh move to in 1886?
  9. How did van Gogh’s painting change.
  10. What style of painting did van Gogh paint, when he moved to the South of France?
  11. Why did van Gogh have to spend time in hospital?
  12. What was special about his ‘Starry Night’ painting?

Maths:

In maths this week, you will be applying your understanding of the times tables to solve multiplication and division problems.  You will need to decide which method is best for your calculation.

To multiply and divide by multiples of 10 and 100, use known multiplication facts.  Like this:  3 x 4 = 12 so 30 x 4 = 120, 30 x 40 = 1200 and 300 x 4 = 1200.

To solve 240 ÷ 4, ignore the 0 and use the fact 24 ÷ 4 = 6 (from the x table fact 6 x 4 = 24).  When you write your answer remember that 240 is 10 times greater than 24,  so your answer will be 10 times greater.  So, 240 ÷ 4 = 60.

You will also be multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100.  This clip reminds you how to use place value to do this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z36tyrd/articles/z2fkwxs

And you might need to use written methods to solve some of the multiplication and division challenges.  These clips will remind you of the methods:  https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z36tyrd

You can also contact us via email, if you need any help.

Rapid recall whiteboard - Choose a number and complete your board.

Don’t forget to practise Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)

Topic:

This afternoon you are going to try painting in the style of van Gogh.  Van Gogh painted a lot of flowers because they were easy to find all around him.  Watch this clip where the children learn about van Gogh:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lGEvm1Lve0.

On  sheet of paper draw, paint, use pastels, felt-tips or crayons – whatever you have – to draw some flowers.  You can paint real flowers in a vase - or you could paint a picture of van Gogh’s sunflowers. Use bright colours and use bold brush or pen strokes.

Reading:

Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record.  Continue using myON to do your online reading and quizzes at: https://www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html.  We can see how many books you have read and how you are doing on your quizzes. So, go on, let’s get reading!

Spellings:

Please practise your spellings daily. This week’s spellings are below. You will need to see which ones you want to work on. If you can spell the Year 2 spellings, then do the Year 3/4.  We will be focusing on 10 spellings every week. On Friday, get someone at home to do your spelling test with you!
