English:
To begin our extreme Earth week we are going to have a look at volcanoes. Watch these videos.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Jxeh-yAXek

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAlawvE8lVw

Use your imagination to create a story map about what happened when a volcano erupted on an island. Think about who might have lived there? Where did they live on the island? How did they escape from the lava? What did the island look like before the volcano erupted? What does it look like now? Did anyone need to be rescued?

Remember your sentences need to include a capital letter, full stop and finger space. Use interesting vocabulary and read your sentences to check they make sense. Fred each word to help you with your spelling.

Maths:

This week we are looking at place value and numbers up to 100!
Today we are going to be representing numbers up to 100 in 10s and 1s.

Starter activity: You do not need to draw the number square. In your maths books write a list of the missing numbers.

In a 2-digit number the first number holds the tens place. The second number holds the ones place.

In your maths books you are going to be drawing a place value grid and representing numbers in 10s and 1s. You can draw a straight line to represent a ten and dots to represent ones. Like below:

Topic: Science

We are going to look at what happens when glaciers melt. Find out all about glaciers form these YouTube clips.

Now it is your turn to conduct an experiment. Watch this next video that will explain how to do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDZWWcAfn-c Did anything unexpected happen? Maybe you can do the experiment again, but this time put your two pots in the sunshine. If you don’t have any modelling clay at home you could use playdough or create the land from Lego, it just needs to be above the water.

Reading: Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record. New books can be accessed online through this link. You will need to register but it is completely free. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

Spelling: Keep practising the year 1 Common Exception words. You have these in your packs.
