We have chosen the old classic ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ as our story this week. I am sure you know it very well.  You task today is to read the story and answer the questions.

Answer these questions in full sentences in your book.

  1. Where did Jack live?
  2. Why did Jack’s mother decide to sell the cow?
  3. Why do you think Jack thought it was a good idea to sell the cow for some beans?
  4. Why was Jack’s mother angry?
  5. What did Jack find at the top of the beanstalk?
  6. What was special about the hen and the harp?
  7. Why did the giant wake up?
  8. What did Jack’s mother do when Jack got down the beanstalk?
  9. What happened to the giant?
  10. Why did Jack and his mother live happily ever after?

Maths:

In maths this week, you will be consolidating your understanding of the number operations, using mental arithmetic and written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You will need to know when to use mental arithmetic and when to use a written method.

In your book or on a sheet of paper create a poster to show the life cycle of a flowering plant.  Use the posters at the bottom of the page to help you: 

 

In your garden, on a walk or in the local park, can you identify flowers that are at the different stages of the lifecycle?  If you are allowed, pick flowers to show each stage of the life cycle – dandelions are very good for this, as they are everywhere, it won’t matter if they are picked and you will find them at all stages of the cycle – but do check with an adult before doing this.  You could arrange these in a life-cycle diagram and take a photograph.
