Monday 4th May

Hello everyone! Our theme for this week is All Things Magic!  Hopefully this week you will be able to unleash your inner Winnie, Harry Potter or Gandalf!  We look forward to seeing all the wonderful things you get up to!  Remember to send examples of your work to our class email.  I hope you have a magical week of home learning!

‘Double, double, toil and trouble.  Fire burn and cauldron bubble’… here is your home learning for today…

English:

Watch ‘Room on the Broom’ to get you into the mood for this week’s theme.  Think about the magic potion at the end and how all the ingredients are mixed in the cauldron.

Now, read this recipe of a witch’s potion for invisibility.

In your book or on paper, create your own recipe for a witch’s spell.   Remember to include:

  • A title – in fancy writing
  • A reason for your potion
  • A subheading for your ingredients
  • A list of strange ingredients – watch those apostrophes!
  • A list of instructions – use numbers or bullet points
  • Add some decoration

Here are some extra ideas – but I am sure you will have lots of ideas of your own.

Dragon’s scales, griffin’s claws, snake’s fangs, venom, brains, eyeballs, unicorn horn, tails of rat, wings of bat, slime of toad, hairs from a wizard’s beard, spider’s legs, the sting of a scorpion, warts of a toad, cat’s whiskers, mouldy bread, rotten eggs, tadpoles, frogspawn, cobwebs, slippery worms, goblin teeth…

Maths:

A normal maths lesson today, learning about converting money, using the BBC Bitesize website.  Follow the videos and activities and complete your work in your book.

Remember to practise your tables using TTRS

Topic:

Today you are going to learn to be magicians!  I have included two YouTube links to videos that show you how to perform some simple tricks.  You can practise on your families and create your very own magic show!  It will be great to see videos of your performances.  If you don’t have time to learn them all today, you can continue to practise throughout the week and send your videos in when you are ready.

This YouTube video has some simple magic tricks to learn.

If you have a pack of cards you might like to try learning these cards tricks.

Now, can you create your own wizard or magician name and make a poster for your performance?

Make sure you are staying active and are doing some exercise throughout the day.

Don’t forget to do plenty of reading at home.  Remember, there will some big news coming soon about our reading at Knowle Primary School, which will help you to read more at home! It’s very exciting!
