Monday 6th July

Good morning everybody!   This week our home learning topic is ‘Food’.  We hope you enjoy the activities we have planned for you and we look forward to seeing your work.  Remember to send your completed work to your class email addresses:

Mr Bemister: otters@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

Ms Edwards: foxes@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

Miss Hancock: badgers@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

English:

The story this week is ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’.  You will be answering questions about the story today, so it would be a good idea to read the questions before you watch it.  You might want to watch the clip – then watch it again to answer the questions.

Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46wCRq50Wwg

Answer these questions in your book:

  1. How was the food sent to the lighthouse?
  2. Name 4 things that were sent in the food basket on Monday.
  3. Why didn’t the lunch arrive?
  4. What was Mrs Grinling’s first plan?
  5. Why did they send the cat?
  6. How do we know that Hamish (the cat) hated flying?
  7. Why did Mrs Grinling put mustard in the sandwiches?
  8. What would you have done?

Maths:

In maths this week, you will be consolidating your understanding of the number operations, using mental arithmetic and written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You will need to know when to use mental arithmetic and when to use a written method.

There are 3 great adding and subtracting learner guides and helpful video clips at:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zy2mn39

There are also 4 multiplying and dividing learner guides and helpful video clips at:

You can also contact us via email, if you need any help.

Rapid recall whiteboard - Choose a number and complete your board.

Don’t forget to practise Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)

Topic:

This afternoon you are going to learn about food groups.  Look at the ‘Food groups plate’ at the bottom of this page and answer the questions about the 5 different food groups.

  1. Why do we need to eat fruit and vegetables?
  2. Why is it important to eat protein?
  3. What group of foods should we eat the least of?
  4. Which food group gives us energy?
  5. Why are dairy products and alternatives good for us?

Can you create a food group plate using items of food in your kitchen?  You can draw this or arrange the food and take a photograph (please ask your parents before emptying the cupboards).

Reading:

Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record.  Continue using myON to do your online reading and quizzes at: https://www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html.  We can see how many books you have read and how you are doing on your quizzes. So, go on, let’s get reading!

Spellings:

Please practise your spellings daily. This week’s spellings are below. You will need to see which ones you want to work on. If you can spell the Year 2 spellings, then do the Year 3/4.  We will be focusing on 10 spellings every week. On Friday, get someone at home to do your spelling test with you!
