Nakate

Welcome to Nakate class!

This year we have named our classes based on inspirational people from around the world and from throughout history. We have two teachers in our Year 1/2 class this year and children are encouraged to reach for the stars and to strive and achieve the best that they can by all of us!

Myself, Mrs Gough, will be teaching the class for three days of the week and Mrs McGuire, who is also the schools Reading leader, two days a week. On a Friday we will have P.E. We are very lucky to have Mrs Nail and Miss Trapnell as our TA's this year too!

Our three topics this year are:

Autumn - All about Plymouth- children will learn about Drake's rise to royal favour and Isambard Kingdom Brunel's building of the Royal Albert Bridge.

Spring - Great Fire of London

Summer- South Africa and Plymouth

As most of you know already, we love to have great links and relationships with all the children and their families, so please feel free to contact either of us whenever you need to and we will always help however we can. As well as at the door, use the email address below as and when you need and we will respond as soon as possible:

We can't wait to have a fantastic year together!!

Reading

We would encourage you to read with your children every day. The children will come home with a book suitable to them that they can read to and with you and then quiz on in school. The more quizzes the more chances of winning prizes and the bigger the class word count! The Year 1 children and some Year 2 will also have a phonics screen this year so the more we can support them the better.

Homework

Year One

For Year One, homework will consist of spellings to practice for a test each Friday. The spellings are linked to the Year 1 National Curriculum. In addition, the children will bring home a Fantastic Facts math sheet with a range of calculations to solve. The sums will be the same every week and the idea is that the children will become more fluent in solving the calculations each week. Please ensure you also read with your child for 10 minutes EVERY night.

For Year Two, homework will consist of spellings to practise for a test each Friday. The spellings are linked to the Year 2 National Curriculum. In addition, the children will bring home their Times Table Travels sheet which they will be timed on weekly in hope that they will fly to the next country! The children should practice their 2x, 5x and 10x.   Please ensure you also read with your child for 10 minutes EVERY night.

The children will also receive topic homework every Friday which will be linked to a subject within the National Curriculum.
