Yesterday, you learned about Chinese New Year and discovered that in China the years are named after 12 animals. Today you are going to learn more about the Chinese Zodiac. Watch this clip of the Chinese myth that explains how the animals were chosen to represent the years: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw0adpGLIdk
Here is another version of the story (a slower animation) – you only need to watch up to 2.20.
Here are the parts of the story mapped out:
In your book
You task today is to create a story map - using 11-12 pictures - for your new version of the story. Follow the steps above but change the animals (all or some of them) and change the race (across a desert, over a mountain or through a forest). Plan your story, as a story map and tell it to a member of your family. Tomorrow you will use your story map to write your own story.
Today you will continue to practise addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You will be practising arithmetic questions and using written methods, so you will need to decide on the best methods to use. Can you solve the problem in your head - or do you need to use a written method?
There are 3 great adding and subtracting learner guides and helpful video clips at:
There are also 4 multiplying and dividing learner guides and helpful video clips at:

Don’t forget to practise Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)
This afternoon you are going to learn more about the Chinese signs of the zodiac. Watch the video clip at the top of the webpage which tells you all about the year of the rat: https://www.chinahighlights.com/travelguide/chinese-zodiac/
Now, on the same website, scroll down and enter your birth date to find your zodiac sign. Click on your zodiac animal and find out the following information:
Now create a poster of your zodiac sign. Draw the animal and add some of the lucky things. Here is an example:
Reading: Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record. Continue using myON to do your online reading and quizzes at: https://www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html. We can see how many books you have read and how you are doing on your quizzes. So, go on, let’s get reading!
Please practise your spellings daily. This week’s spellings are below. You will need to see which ones you want to work on. If you can spell all of the Year 2, then do the Year 3/4. On Friday, get someone at home to do your spelling test with you!
