Good morning everybody! Welcome to today’s learning. We hope that you are enjoying ‘Artist’ week so far! When you have completed your work, please email it to your class teacher.

English:
Today you are going to learn about the local Artist, Brian Pollard, who creates brightly coloured paintings of places in Devon and Cornwall. You are going to use his paintings as inspiration to write a diary entry. Look at the painting showing a busy day out on Plymouth Hoe and consider these things:
What was it like on the Hoe?
What was the weather like?
What colour was the sky?
Were you with your family?
What could you see and hear on the Hoe?
Did you have a ride on the big wheel (Plymouth Eye)?
Did you watch the Red Arrows flying past?
Did you climb up Smeaton’s Tower (Lighthouse)?
Did you play a fairground game?
Did you have an ice-cream?
Did you watch the boats?
In your books:
Create a simple story map or comic strip of your day, to use as a plan for your writing. Choose a few activities to do – you don’t have to do everything in the painting.
Maths:
In maths this week, you will be applying your understanding of the times tables to solve multiplication and division problems. You will need to decide which method is best for your calculation.
To multiply and divide by multiples of 10 and 100, use known multiplication facts. Like this: 3 x 4 = 12 so 30 x 4 = 120, 30 x 40 = 1200 and 300 x 4 = 1200.
To solve 240 ÷ 4, ignore the 0 and use the fact 24 ÷ 4 = 6 (from the multiplication fact 6 x 4 = 24). When you write your answer remember that 240 is 10 times greater than 24, so your answer will be 10 times greater. So, 240 ÷ 4 = 60.
You will also be multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. This clip reminds you how to use place value to do this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z36tyrd/articles/z2fkwxs
And you might need to use written methods to solve some of the multiplication and division challenges. These clips will remind you of the methods: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z36tyrd
You can also contact us via email, if you need any help.
Rapid recall whiteboard - Choose a number and complete your board.
Don’t forget to practise Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)
Topic:
This afternoon you are going to create your own Brian Pollard style print. First of all, find out more about him in this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-yESvNDQSM
To get ideas for your paintings, have a look at the gallery on this webpage: https://www.brianpollard.co.uk/paintings.htm
On paper create your own Pollard print. You can use paint, crayons, pastels or felt-tips – anything bright! You can paint a full scene, with Smeaton’s Tower or just a detail, such as Smeaton’s Tower, the balloons or a cat. I look forward to seeing your creations.
Reading:
Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record. Continue using myON to do your online reading and quizzes at: https://www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html. We can see how many books you have read and how you are doing on your quizzes. So, go on, let’s get reading!
Spellings:
Please practise your spellings daily. This week’s spellings are below. You will need to see which ones you want to work on. If you can spell the Year 2 spellings, then do the Year 3/4. We will be focusing on 10 spellings every week. On Friday, get someone at home to do your spelling test with you!
