Thursday 2nd July

Good morning everybody!  Welcome to today’s learning.  When you have completed your work, please email it to your class teacher. Here are our email addresses:

Miss Hancock: badgers@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

English:

Today you are going to write your story.  The Jack and the Beanstalk story, you read this week, does not have much description.  Can you make sure you use lots of adjectives and interesting description to make your story really interesting for the reader.

Remember:

  • Describe your characters
  • Describe your setting
  • Write in paragraphs
  • Use full-stops and capital letters carefully
  • Use lots of adjectives to write  interesting description and detail
  • Include a little dialogue – using inverted commas
  • Read each sentence carefully to check your writing makes sense
  • Check your spelling

We look forward to reading your stories and seeing the changes you have made!

Maths:

In maths this week, you will be consolidating your understanding of the number operations, using mental arithmetic and written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You will need to know when to use mental arithmetic and when to use a written method.

Topic:

This afternoon, you are going to learn all about pollination.

Look at this clip about bees:  https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zy66fg8/articles/zx4ktv4

Now, look at this website:  https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2019/04/what-is-pollination/

Use the information in the website to answer these questions in your book:

  1. What is pollination?
  2. How does pollination work?
  3. Why do pollinators visit flowers?
  4. What is pollen?
  5. How do trees pollinate?

Reading:

Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record.  Continue using myON to do your online reading and quizzes at: https://www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html.  We can see how many books you have read and how you are doing on your quizzes. So, go on, let’s get reading!

Spellings:

Please practise your spellings daily. This week’s spellings are below. You will need to see which ones you want to work on. If you can spell the Year 2 spellings, then do the Year 3/4.  We will be focusing on 10 spellings every week. On Friday, get someone at home to do your spelling test with you!
