Thursday 9th July

Good morning everybody! Welcome to today’s learning.  When you have completed your work, please email it to your class teacher. Here are our email addresses:

Mr Bemister: otters@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

Ms Edwards: foxes@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

Miss Hancock: badgers@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

English:

Today you are going to create a menu, using your ideas from yesterday.  Look at the menus to give you an idea what they look like:

In your books or on a piece of plain paper:

Create your menu, using the food items from the story that you described yesterday.

Remember:

  • Give your restaurant a name
  • Draw pictures of each item if you want to
  • Include an enticing description of each item
  • Give each item a price

Maths:

In maths this week, you will be consolidating your understanding of the number operations, using mental arithmetic and written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You will need to know when to use mental arithmetic and when to use a written method.

There are 3 great adding and subtracting learner guides and helpful video clips at:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zy2mn39

There are also 4 multiplying and dividing learner guides and helpful video clips at:

You can also contact us via email, if you need any help.

Rapid recall whiteboard - Choose a number and complete your board.

Don’t forget to practise Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)

Topic:

Today we are going to look at where the food we eat comes from and we are going consider the journey it takes to get to our plates.  There is a lot of talk today about ‘air miles’, which describes the distance food has travelled to reach our supermarkets.  We can’t grow all the food we need in this country and we certainly can’t grow foods that need a hot climate, so many foods that we eat come from different countries.  We can grow some foods in their season – for example: we grow strawberries in the summer, but if we want strawberries in the winter, we export them from a warmer country.

Watch this clip to learn more:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Opt06QF9WY

In your books:

Use the internet to find out where these foods come from.  Some will originate from more than one country or an area eg: countries around the equator.  Write the food item and where it comes from.

Chocolate

Rice

Tea

Coffee

Sugar

Bananas

Olives

Mango

Coconut

Pineapple

Now have a look at the food in your kitchen cupboards and fridge (ask and adult first).  Choose 10 foods and write they were produced (their country of origin).

Reading:

Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record.  Continue using myON to do your online reading and quizzes at: https://www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html.  We can see how many books you have read and how you are doing on your quizzes. So, go on, let’s get reading!

Spellings:

Please practise your spellings daily. This week’s spellings are below. You will need to see which ones you want to work on. If you can spell the Year 2 spellings, then do the Year 3/4.  We will be focusing on 10 spellings every week. On Friday, get someone at home to do your spelling test with you!
