Why are trees important?

Where do we find trees?

Have a read of Resource 1 to see how trees help us.

Scientists have recently outlined rules for planting new trees. They believe this is important, as if trees are planted in the wrong place, they can do damage to the environment in other ways. Previously, it was thought by many that planting trees anywhere was always good for the environment and for us all.

Read through the information on the resource below about planting new trees below. Are you surprised to hear that planting trees anywhere isn’t always a good idea?

What would a world be like without trees?

Read Resource 2 which considers what might happen if all our trees disappeared.

Do you think this would be a good idea?
