Tuesday 12th May

Hi! Today we continue with our theme for this week which is ‘BRITAIN IS GREAT!’ We will be continuing to learn about famous people and their inventions that made this country great. Remember to send examples of your work into our class email.

foxes@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

So here is your home learning for today.

English:

First remind yourself with yesterday’s ‘Dick and Dom’s Awesome Genius’ clip about Isambard-Kingdom Brunel.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WWjeL-XIVw&list=PLRLJT4OEjG-e2hAls9fmBjwC5m8rNe045&index=28

Brunel was a true genius and drew detailed sketches of all his inventions. Watch this clip by Maddie Moates to set the scene.

Design and draw your own invention. It could be a bridge or a boat like Brunel or something else.  Ask yourself:

What would it be made out of?  What are the sizes of the lengths, widths and heights? What would you call it? Remember to add labels to accompany your sketch. Now write some sentences telling us all about your new invention. Why is it so great? How will it change the world? How will it change people’s lives?

Make sure you send your work in to our class email.

Maths:

Today we are going to use the bite size daily for out maths work. Today’s lesson is all about subtracting a 3 or 4 digit number from another. You could record workings in your books.

Please continue to use TTRS to practice your times tables.

Topic:

For Topic you have a choice of two tasks based on British inventors. You can do one of them or both of them.  Your choice!

We all love to watch the television! Maybe a little more at the moment. John Logie Baird was the first to transmit moving pictures on a screen in October 1925.

Have fun to bring your pictures to life by making a flick or flip book. By drawing your pictures carefully one after another you should be able to make your pictures move.

At the moment we are using phones to keep in touch with people more than ever. In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell invented and patented his telephone model just hours before a rival inventor. In 1989, Tim Berners-Lee, a British computer scientist, invented the worldwide web as a system to link computers.  Make a telephone of your own using paper or plastic cups. You might need an adult to help you with this one!

Please make sure you are staying active, doing some exercise throughout the day. You can use the Joe Wicks sessions, have a go at Wii Fit games or just enjoy a nice walk with your family.

Don’t forget to do plenty of reading at home. New books can be accessed online through this link. You will need to register but it's completely free.

See you all soon.
