Tuesday 14th July

Tuesday

Good morning everybody!   We hope you enjoyed your home learning yesterday.  Here’s what we have planned for today.  Remember to send your work to your class email addresses:

Mr Bemister: otters@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

Ms Edwards: foxes@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

Miss Hancock: badgers@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

English:

Watch the short film ‘Quest for Glory Euro Cup 2016’.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTKAM1B8H48

Here is an outline of the story:

Harley, aged 10, meets sidekick Beta the robot, whilst practicing his football skills for the Euros against his boxes. With the tournament only weeks away, Beta steps in to help Harley practice by giving him a Hisense TV, fridge and washing machine to prepare for the competition.

After weeks of practicing, Harley eventually perfects his skills to reach the games. However, on the night before he leaves, to help keep him safe on his travels to France, Beta takes Harley's favourite toy dinosaur Woody and magically transforms him into a protective hooded jumper.  Harley's dream eventually becomes reality, as he makes it to the finals wearing his new jumper and meets UEFA's official mascot Super Victor.

In your book:

Answer these questions:

  1. What was Harley meant to be doing at the beginning of the film?
  2. Why did Harley have to train so hard?
  3. Why did Harley have a calendar on the fridge?
  4. What was Harley’s favourite toy?
  5. What did Beta do to Harley’s favourite toy?
  6. Who was in the goal when Harley arrived at the stadium?

Now:

Imagine you are Harley.  Write a short diary extract of your day at the stadium.  How would you have felt?  What would you have seen?  What could you hear?

Maths:

In maths this week, you will be consolidating your understanding of the number operations, using mental arithmetic and written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You will need to know when to use mental arithmetic and when to use a written method.

There are 3 great adding and subtracting learner guides and helpful video clips at:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zy2mn39

There are also 4 multiplying and dividing learner guides and helpful video clips at:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z36tyrd

You can also contact us via email, if you need any help.

Rapid recall whiteboard - Choose a number and complete your board.

Don’t forget to practise Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)

Topic:

This afternoon you are going to create your own football mascot. Mascots are used to promote a team and to motivate people to take part.  The mascot in the clip you watched today was a boy called ‘Super Victor’ but many mascots are cartoon and animal characters.  You could create a design where you are the ‘super’ mascot or have a look at these characters to get some ideas:  https://www.rainbowproductions.co.uk/football-mascots/ or https://www.rainbowproductions.co.uk/olympic-mascots/

Remember:  Do your exercise plan!

Reading:

Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record.  Continue using myON to do your online reading and quizzes at: https://www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html.  We can see how many books you have read and how you are doing on your quizzes. So, go on, let’s get reading!

Spellings:

Please practise your spellings daily. This week’s spellings are below. You will need to see which ones you want to work on. If you can spell the Year 2 spellings, then do the Year 3/4.  We will be focusing on 10 spellings every week. On Friday, get someone at home to do your spelling test with you!
