Tuesday 16th June

Good morning everybody!   We hope you are enjoying you home learning this week.  Here is your learning for today.   Remember to send your work to your class email addresses:

Mr Bemister: otters@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

Ms Edwards: foxes@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

Miss Hancock: badgers@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

English:

Today you are going to think a little more about the story.  Read the story again and tell the story using your story map.  Now think about the end of the story, when Tom finds the jet, black stone in his pocket. Why did he have the stone?  Where did it come from?   Did someone give it to him?  What did the stone do?  Did it have a power?  The stone glowed and became warm, so this suggests it had a power.  What could that power be?  Create a table in your book with the 3 headings below.  Copy the information and write what you think the power of the stone could be.  Then complete 3 more objects.  Think of simple things that he could have been given – maybe metals, crystals, gemstones or a curious gadget.  Think about the special or magical powers they might have.  Do they give the owner special powers and abilities or are they communication devices?  Remember you will include this object in your story.

In your books:

Create this table and add 3 more objects.

Object description                 What does it do?                                 What is its power?

Jet, black stone.                      It became warm and glowed.             You decide?

Maths:

This week you will be practising your times tables then using your skills to solve multiplication and division problems.  You should be able to do all the calculations in your head and you should be able to recall answers quickly.

Rapid recall whiteboard - Choose a number and complete your board.

Don’t forget to practise Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)

Topic:

You are going to learn about what it is like to live in space.  Orbiting our planet is the International Space Station (ISS) , which is home to astronauts and scientists from all over the world, who are learning all about space!  Watch these fascinating clips to find out more:

Tour of Space Station - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBVUTFPate0

Washing hair - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIjNfZbUYu8

Making a sandwich - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2szk-NuKWg

Imagine you are going to be on the International Space Station for 10 months.  Write 10 things you would take with you. Think about food, music, books, toys and other memorable things you would want while you were away from Earth.

Now write 3 things you would like about being on the International Space Station and 3 things you would not like.

Reading:

Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record.  Continue using myON to do your online reading and quizzes at: https://www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html.  We can see how many books you have read and how you are doing on your quizzes. So, go on, let’s get reading!

Spellings:

Please practise your spellings daily. This week’s spellings are below. You will need to see which ones you want to work on. If you can spell the Year 2 spellings, then do the Year 3/4.  We will be focusing on 10 spellings every week. On Friday, get someone at home to do your spelling test with you!
