Tuesday

Starter: Practise your addition to 10.

Today the children will begin to look at how to use the Part Whole Model to solve simple addition problems. The focus of Share task is to ensure that children are aware that the whole represents the two parts combined. Share this picture with them and ask the following questions:

• Which are the parts? Which is the whole?
• How many are in each part? How many are in the whole?

Encourage children to create a part-whole model to represent something else they can see in the picture. They can use their cubes or counters for this.
Ask: Can you make a part-whole model for the clouds? What
are the parts representing? What is the whole representing?
Encourage children to tell the number story.

Can you use the Whole Part model to show how many butterflies there are in the picture. Trying separating them by colour. How many purple ones are there and how many yellow ones are there? Can you show this on your model with cubes or counters?
Challenge: Can you look at the pictures of the red and blue counters and show these in your Whole Part Model. How many red counters are there? How many blue counters are there? How many are there altogether?
