English: Today you are going to use your planning from yesterday to create a short description of your discovery of your new species of plant. Think about where you were e.g. in your back garden, woods, rainforest, desert. When was it? Which season was it? What time of day? How did you notice it? Remember to refer back to your planning sheet from yesterday to add detail to your description. Try to use rich vocabulary throughout and don’t forget to check your spelling, punctuation and grammar.

 

Please read the story starter below, can you please continue by describing your discovery:

 

Hours and hours had passed, and I hadn’t seen a soul. The monotony of trudging through this seemingly never-ending labyrinth was tiring, and my eyelids felt heavy. The heady scent of the pine sap and earthy moss added to my lethargic state. I felt as if I could close my eyes and sleep for a thousand years.  Suddenly, I saw beams of dappled light battle through the canopy, landing on a wonderous sight.

 

A great sense of excitement filled me, and my heart raced frantically in my chest. Galloping towards this magnificent, unique tree. The towering pines around me, like sentinels protecting this unbelievable, mesmerising tree, seemed to bear down upon me. There was only one path forward, and I took it with wonder and amazement racing through my veins, never having seen such an awe-inspiring plant in my entire life…

Science:

 

This afternoon we are going to learn about plants, their needs, their parts and their functions. This will help you with the different English tasks that you will be completing for the rest of the week.

Play the clip https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zg7s39q about ‘Characteristics of Living Things’. Then read through the ‘Living things and their need sheet’ below, highlight or underline key points as you go.

Then complete the questions and fill in one of the exit tickets.

Check your answers to the questions (you will find the answers at the end of the document).

Then play the clip about Parts of a Plant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3St51F4kE8. Now carefully read the sheet ‘What does it take to be a plant’. Highlight/underline key points as you go – this will help you later. Please then complete the questions.

There are two more tasks sheets on this document that you can try, the first is to illustrate the plant parts and explain their function and the second is to complete a venn diagram on plant parts and their similarities and differences.

Please practise your spellings daily. This week’s spellings are below. You will need to see which ones you want to work on. If you can spell all of the Year 2 words then do the Year 3/4 words and if you can do all of those, then do the Year 5/6. We will be focusing on 10 spellings every week.
