Tuesday 9th June

Good morning everybody!   We hope you enjoyed your home learning yesterday.  Today we are going to continue our journey across China.

Remember to send your work to your class email addresses:

Mr Bemister: otters@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

Ms Edwards: foxes@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

Miss Hancock: badgers@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

English:

Today you are going to learn about one of the most important structures in China – The Great Wall of China!  You are going to answer some questions about a video clip, so you will need to watch it carefully, maybe twice.  It would be a good idea to read the questions first, then stop the video when you spot an answer – there is a question for each of the 10 facts. Watch the clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ci4N7LsmKT4

In your books:

Answer these questions:

  1. Why was the Great Wall of China called ‘the longest cemetery on earth’?
  2. What animal did they take to the funerals?
  3. What does this fact tell us about the size of the Great Wall of China?
  4. What did the builders put in the mortar?
  5. What did the Chinese invent to help build the wall?
  6. Can the Great Wall of China be seen from space?
  7. How many people visit Badaling on a busy day?
  8. How much of the Great Wall of China has disappeared?
  9. How many famous people have visited the Great Wall of China?
  10. How did a dragon help the Chinese to build the Great Wall of China?

Maths:

Today you will continue to practise addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You will be practising arithmetic questions and using written methods, so you will need to decide on the best methods to use.  Can you solve the problem in your head - or do you need to use a written method?

There are 3 great adding and subtracting learner guides and helpful video clips at:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zy2mn39

There are also 4 multiplying and dividing learner guides and helpful video clips at:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z36tyrd

You can also contact us via email, if you need any help.

Rapid recall whiteboard - Choose a number and complete your board.

Don’t forget to practise Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)

Topic:

This afternoon you are going to try to create your own Great Wall of China.  You can choose:

DT project:  Use construction kit or cardboard to build your own Great Wall!  You could build it across a room or in your garden.

Art project:  Draw or paint a landscape painting of the great wall as it snakes over the mountains.

Here is a picture to help!

Reading: Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record.  Continue using myON to do your online reading and quizzes at: https://www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html.  We can see how many books you have read and how you are doing on your quizzes. So, go on, let’s get reading!

Spellings:

Please practise your spellings daily. This week’s spellings are below. You will need to see which ones you want to work on. If you can spell all of the Year 2, then do the Year 3/4, if you can already spell all of those, then do the Year 5/6. We will be focusing on 10 spellings every week. On Friday, get someone at home to do your spelling test with you!
