Wednesday 13th May

Hello everyone! I hope you are all enjoying our BRITAIN IS GREAT! theme this week.  Today you will be learning about the countries that make up Great Britain.  Remember to send examples of your work into our class email.

otters@knowle-plymouth.co.uk

So, here is your home learning for today.

English:

Today you will be learning about Great Britain.  We also call our country the United Kingdom (UK), which is slightly different, but we are basically made up of 4 countries and you don’t need to fully understand the difference.  Watch these short clips to learn more about this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?=1_eE4kBT1bg&list=PLpqdOPuxxX6ROTtPRSLCsiG9zmUfFTHVM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJ1mg6vikvs

Each country in Great Britain has a patron Saint.  The Patron Saint of England is St George and we celebrate St Georges day on 23rd April.

Watch this clip to learn of his story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqBn08RywaE

Choose one of these activities:

  1. Create a story map of St George and the Dragon – tell the story to a family member.
  2. Create a comic strip of St George and the Dragon.
  3. Write a GEORGE AND DRAGON acrostic poem.

EXT: Use the internet to discover the patron Saints of Scotland, Ireland and Wales

Maths:

Today we are going to use the bitesize daily for our maths work.  Today’s lesson is to divide a two-digit number by a one-digit number.

Click this link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zbkdjhv

Complete the maths in your book.

Please continue to use TTRS to practice your times tables.

Topic:

Use the YouTube clips from the English session and look at the following slideshow link (you only need to go up to slide 17)

https://www.slideshare.net/siberian_squirrel/british-symbols-17952436

Create a fact sheet about the four countries of the United Kingdom  Draw the union flag at the top and then include information about each country, drawing their flag and their symbol.

  • Flags
  • Symbol
  • Patron Saint
  • Capital City
  • Special places

You could even create larger flags or bunting of the flags.

Please make sure you are staying active, doing some exercise throughout the day. You can use the Joe Wicks sessions or just enjoy a nice walk with your family.

You can log into myON using your AR reading username and password.  There are lots of exciting books to choose here and they will add to your word count.

Don’t forget to do plenty of reading at home. New books can be accessed online through this link. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page. You will need to register but it's completely free.
