Wednesday 6th May

Good morning everyone,

I hope you’re having a good week!

Did you know… On May 6th 1840, The world's first postage stamp, the "Penny Black", was first used in Great Britain.

See below for today’s learning.

Mr B 😊

English:

In English today, we are going to focus on our reading comprehension and look at an extract from the first book in the series, ‘Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone’.

To summarise, it is the very start of the whole Harry Potter story when the Headmaster from Hogwarts goes to Harry Potter’s street. You might have to read it a few times to get your head around it. There are magical things happening…

Here is the scene from YouTube to help you visualise it…(up to 1:00 minute)

Read page one at the bottom of the page, and then answer the questions about it. Write them out in your book.

Maths:

Today you will be comparing and ordering numbers up to 1,000,000. Watch the videos below as a reminder and then have a go at the attached worksheets.

Range 30-60: 51

Range 350-450: 407

Range 30-99: 45

Topic:

Castles: Find out lots about castles. These are always in fantasy writing about magic… so what are they? What did they do? Are there different types? Write down some facts that you find out.

CHALLENGE: Can you make your own castle? Use cardboard and glue, or make it out of Lego or anything else you have around the house!

Reading: Please do your daily reading and record it in your reading record.

Spellings:

Please practise your spellings daily. These lists are on our class page. You can practise the Year 1/2, Year 3/4 and the Year 5/6 spelling lists. You all know which spellings you should be practising anyway.
