Wednesday 8th July

Phonics:

Read Write Inc. Phonics lessons are on YouTube for children to watch at home from 9:30am and will be available for 24 hours.  All films will be in separate categories on the YouTube channel; https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ

I would suggest that you follow this link to review set 1 sound as your child will know these really well now; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCBzNnSSxds (turn off the sound so your child can say what they see).

Note; Keep asking your child to tell you the set 2 and 3 sounds in their home learning packs so that you know which sounds to practise.

Red Words

Red words are the name we use for words the children cannot sound out as they do not follow the phonics language patterns. Their letters make uncommon sounds. The only way to learn these words is from memory, so they need lots of practise! Here are the next set of red words to learn for the next few weeks as there are fifteen;

Remember you can also play some fun games here; https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources

English:

Today we are going to write a diary extract to record a day in the life of the very hungry caterpillar.

You might choose the day that he eats the most or you might prefer to choose the day he becomes a beautiful butterfly. Think about all of the different thoughts and feelings the very hungry caterpillar would be having on that day and include them in your writing.

Here are some sentence stems to help you;

On Monday I ate __________________

On Tuesday I ate __________________

On ________ I ate ________________

And so on........................

Maths;

Warm up;

Today we are going to look at shapes in different orientations.

Today, you are going to explore tangrams  https://mathigon.org/tangram

When you change the position of a shape, does anything change?

In the top corner of your rapid recall whiteboard, you will have a space to write your number.

Year 1 (1-10) - Today's number is 3

Topic: Geography

Today we are going to learn about food from around the world.

Click on the link to read a Newsround article, looking at children around the world and what they eat. You may need an adult to help you when reading tricky words;

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/48634709

Now click this link to watch a video clip of school dinners from around the world;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Po0O9tRXCyA

Can you draw and label a picture of your favourite British school dinner and then draw a plate of food from another country that you would like to try?

Challenge; Can you match the food to the country it comes from? You should recognise the flags from our Continents study.

Handwriting:

We want you to practise your weekly spellings in our fancy handwriting style. Please have a look at the document attached at the bottom to show you the joins.

Reading:

Log in to your myON account here;  https://www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html

You can choose from a variety of texts and most will have a quiz to go with them. We can log in and see how you are getting on so I would love to see your quiz scores, 100% of course.
