COVID Curriculum

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the education of children globally. Like millions of children around the world, the children at Knowle have experienced significant disruption to their education. However, the team at Knowle have worked tirelessly throughout this pandemic ensuring that our top three priorities are achieved.

COVID Top Three Priorities (S.A.S)

Safety

Paramount safety of all children and staff through in school and online provision.

Accessibility

Providing a rich curriculum that all children can access and engage with through working in partnership with parents. Barriers to accessibility of home learning to be removed.

Support

To continue to provide relentless support (in person and virtual) for all our families, with a particular focus on targeted support for our most vulnerable children.

Summer Term COVID Catch Up

Our Summer Term Curriculum places greater emphasis on our top three priorities as a school (I.C.E Improving, Closing and Embedding) being addressed as we tackle gaps in learning that have developed as a result of school closures. We will deliver a rich and broad curriculum that ensures that missed concepts in learning are taught. From our monitoring of the impact of the school closures on learners, our key focus over the summer term will be...

  • Stamina for learning
  • High quality intervention support
  • Physical and mental health/wellbeing

To addressed these areas for development, we have listened to the advice of government, academic research and most importantly the needs of our school community. Leaders have invested the COVID catch up premium and school budget in the following ways...

  • Quality first teaching
  • Communication and language development
  • Effective use of personalised feedback
  • Reading/Writing recovery
  • Tutoring (through the National Tuition Program).

We remain flexible in our approach to teaching and learning in the summer term to ensure that significant gaps in learning that impact on the wider curriculum can be addressed as priority. Phonics, Reading, Writing and Maths remain, as always, the bedrock of wider curriculum learning and will be intensively addressed over the summer term.
