Welcome to Irwin class!
This year, we have named our classes based on inspirational people from around the world and from throughout history. We are a Year 4 class this year and children are encouraged to reach for the stars and to strive and achieve the best that they can!
Miss Ellicott will be teaching the class over the week. We are very lucky to have the wonderful Mr Fenn as our class teaching assistant this year. It is going to be a sensational year in Irwin class!
Our three topics this year are:
- Autumn - Stone age to Iron Age.
- Spring - Romans.
- Summer- Volcanoes, Earthquakes and Mountains.
We love to have great links and relationships with all the children and their families, so please feel free to contact us whenever you need to and we will always help however we can. Please contact us via Class Dojo. We operate an open door policy so please feel free to chat to me in the mornings or catch me after school. I will always be happy to meet with you and should you require a longer chat we can make an appointment.
We can't wait to have a fantastic year together!

P.E
Please note that we have PE for Irwin Class is on a Thursday, so please remember to dress your child in their full PE kit on this day. Please ensure your child has their coloured PE top, PE hoodie, black/dark plain PE bottoms, hair tied up and jewellery removed on these days so that they are ready and safe to take part. Thank you!
HOMEWORK
Homework will consist of spellings to practice for a test on the following Friday. The spellings are linked to the Year 3/4 National Curriculum statutory spellings. In addition, the children will bring home a Times Table Trek sheet with a range of times tables to solve. Please support your children in practicing them at home to enable them to progress further. Children will also be given topic homework each week, where they will get a chance to explore other subjects in more depth.
READING
As part of their homework, please encourage your child to read for at least 10 minutes EVERY night, this greatly helps with their progress. If they did this every day for the whole year, that would be 3,500 minutes of reading!
Children should bring in their reading records every day and are encouraged to read every night at home; it'll only take 5 to 10 minutes and makes a tremendous difference to their confidence and attainment in class! The reading book you receive will be in line with your child's reading ability. The children are assessed regularly and book levels are set accordingly. Please try and complete their reading record by signing it to acknowledge they have read at home and we can check these in school and gets books quizzed and changed. Thank you for your cooperation.
STAR OF THE WEEK
Star of the Week will be awarded to a different child every Friday afternoon for being a superstar all week! It could be for their attitude to learning, behaviour or producing outstanding work (to name a few!). Who will be the first star of the week this year...?
